Over the last few days we have been contacted by a number of people in relation to a scam regarding the PT Taskmall app.
What happened?
People came across the company through social media adverts or referrals from friends. They were promised a way of making good money by helping with social media engagement across a number of social platforms (facebook, instagram, youtube, etc.).
In order to start, they created a profile, downloaded the app, and paid a deposit to unlock a number of tasks for them to complete and earn money.
Why was it so convincing?
The app looked very professional. It had a support team and promised anyone could withdraw at any time. Some people had been able to successfully withdraw quite significant amounts of money.
Where did it go wrong?
PT Task Mall went offline on the 14th February, supposedly for a few hours. But has remained offline with the servers down. It has become clear that they are no longer contactable, and all deposits have been lost.
What can I do next?
We believe that victims may be able to recover the money from their banks if their bank failed in their regulatory responsibilities to protect them.
In order to investigate this, victims would need to speak to their bank and explain why they feel that they are owed a refund for the money lost. You can, of course, do this yourself for free.
