Shibarium to Host NFTs, Lead Developer Shares Crucial Warning

With the much-anticipated launch of Shibarium, Shiba Inu’s Ethereum-based layer-2 protocol, the core development team behind the project are now all out to answer queries from members of the community.

Shibarium and NFTs: Advocated Caution

The protocol is billed to function like every other Layer-2 scaling outfit around today. While it will host all varieties of Decentralized Applications (DApps) like its peers, lead developer, Shytoshi Kusama has confirmed that the L2 will support the minting of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) across the board.

This confirmation was first shared on the Discord server of Shibarium Tech protocol. Kusama responded directly to an inquiry from a user who wanted to know if Shibarium will publish instructions on how to mint NFTs. In response, Kusama noted that users who wish to mint an NFT will have to pick their platform of choice and the smart contract will direct them accordingly.

One comment of note shared by the Shibarium team lead is for prospective NFT creators to be careful and for them to do their own research. This statement appears intuitive as the whole Shibarium tech stack is new and is yet to be fully time-tested by the public.

Despite the confidence in the protocol, fueling the readiness to launch at the forthcoming Blockchain Futurist Conference, Kusama and the team will still be relying on the input from community members through steady use of the Shibarium protocol and the feedback given to enhance the protocol.

Can Shibarium Compete with Existing L2s?

As gleaned from the promotions of the Shibarium team over the past few months, the core essence of Shibarium is not to compete but to offer value to the millions of SHIBArmy out there.

However, to attract users, it will have to show it can surpass Polygon zkEVM, Optimism, Arbitrum and zkSync Era amongst other protocols that are already serving users on the Ethereum network as an L2.

Though Shibarium has raked in a lot of milestones since the launch of its PuppyNet testnet, its performance after the launch of the mainnet will be its key identifier in the industry moving forward.
